About SOLide
SOLide in Dordrecht (NL) is a consultancy and is doing research. It was established in 1998 in Dordrecht (near Rotterdam). At first its mission has been to develop products for others. Since it origination it has participated in various projects in automotive and medical industries.
Gradually it has moved its focus from product and production development towards being a consultancy related to new ways of developing products and the way they are produced better and faster. Its focus at present is related to the rise of 'additive manufacturing' and the interests of SOLide's founder.
TU Delft
Rein van der Mast studied Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. He was manager of the department for product development of a manufacturer of industrial and consumer electronics. Over there in the mid nineties he introduced 3D CAD as well as 'rapid prototyping' for verification and sales. One of his designs was nominated for the prestigious Design Price of the City of Rotterdam and was displayed by the Boijmans van Beuningen museum.
Publications
Rein trained many people in 3D CAD and 'solid modelling'. At first he wrote for CAD Magazine of CMedia and by now over hundred articles and thirty columns have been published in Machinebouw (formerly known as CA Techniek), Constructeur, Kunststof & Rubber, Link Magazine and The TCT Magazine. He is a member of the advice boards of Kunststof & Rubber, Machinebouw and RapidPro.
Research
SOLide is doing reasearch on 'virtual' sculpting combined with '3D printing', with LayerWise and Materialise in Leuven (Belgium). and Innplate in Geldrop (near Eindhoven, Netherlands).
TCT
The characters 'tct' in SOLide's domain name stand for 'time-compression technologies', more or less the collective term of what is called 'additive manufacturing' today.
