About SOLide

SOLide (SOLutions in design engineering) in Dordrecht (NL) is a consultancy agency and participates in research projects. It was established in 1998 in Dordrecht (near Rotterdam). At first its mission was to develop products for others. Since it origination it has participated in various projects in automotive and medical industries.

Gradually it has moved its focus from product and production development towards being a consultancy agency related to new ways of developing products and how they can be produced better and faster. Its focus at present is related to the rise of 'additive manufacturing'.

TU Delft

Rein van der Mast MSc studied Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. He was the manager of the department for product development of a manufacturer of industrial and consumer electronics. Over there in the mid nineties he introduced 3D CAD as well as 'rapid prototyping' for verification and sales. One of his designs was nominated for the prestigious Design Price of the City of Rotterdam and was displayed by the Boijmans van Beuningen museum.

Rein trained many people in 3D CAD and 'solid modelling'. At first he wrote for CAD Magazine of CMedia and by now over twohundred articles and thirty columns have been published in Machinebouw (formerly known as CA Techniek), Constructeur, Kunststof & Rubber, Link Magazine, Mechatronica and The TCT Magazine. He is a member of the advice boards of Kunststof & Rubber, Machinebouw and RapidPro.

SOLide is doing reasearch on 'virtual' sculpting combined with '3D printing', with LayerWise andMaterialise in Leuven (Belgium), and Innplate in Geldrop (near Eindhoven, Netherlands).

The characters 'tct' in SOLide's domain name stand for 'time-compression technologies', more or less the collective term of what is called 'additive manufacturing' today.
