SOLide is a consultancy. It was established in 1998 in Dordrecht (near Rotterdam). At first its mission has been to develop products for others. Since it origination it has participated in various projects in the automotive and medical industries.
Gradually it has moved its focus from product and production development towards being a consultancy related to new ways of developing products and production better and faster. Its focus at present is related to the rise of the so called Rapid Technologies and the interests of SOLide's founder Rein van der Mast.
Rein van der Mast studied Industrial Design Engineering at the Delft University of Technology. He was manager of the department for product development at a manufacturer of industrial and consumer electronics. Over there he introduced 3D CAD as well as Rapid Prototyping for verification and sales purposes. One of his designs was nominated for the Design Price of the City of Rotterdam and was displayed by the Boijmans van Beuningen museum.
Rein trained many people in 3D CAD and Solid Modelling. At first he wrote for CAD Magazine (CMedia) and by now over hundred articles and thirty columns have been published in Machinebouw (formerly known as CA Techniek), Constructeur, Kunststof & Rubber Magazine, Link Magazine and PT Industrieel Management. He is a member of the advice boards of Kunststof & Rubber Magazine and Machinebouw. In many cases he is writing about his favourite subject: Rapid Technologies.
